I was a Spectrum and Amiga fan in my youth. There was the Atari ST, but somehow I always smiled at it compared to the Amiga.

Probably wrongly. I will now make my experiences with an Atari ST 1040STFM. Unfortunately I don't have any software for the Atari at the moment, so I can't say much about it yet.

1040STFM

This is him. I got it without a mouse, which I had to get first. But even so, it is currently only for viewing, since there is not much going on on the user interface without software.

GEM

This is the user interface. Atari had the so-called TOS (The Operating System - very creative - more creative was the unofficial name Tramiel Operating System after the then Atari boss Jack Tramiel), the user interface was called GEM (Graphics Environment Manager - developed by Digital Research).

mb 1040stfm

Structure of the mainboard of the 1040STFM. In the abbreviation STFM, ST stands for Sixteen/Thirty-Two, i.e. 16/32, since the Motorola 68000 has a 16 bit wide data bus and works internally with 32 bits. The F indicates that the Atari has an internal floppy drive and the M that a TV modulator was built in.

The 1040STFM was produced from 1986 to 1992.
